DM500c or s ?

Hi All,
I remember reading a while ago that the Dreambox cable version (DM500c) could also be used to decode from Satellite source ala DM500s. - but a 500s cannot be used for cable. I'm not too sure if my memory serves me correctly. Does anyone know if this is correct? If so, what do you need to change when you swap them over?

Reason I ask is that I have cable sub that I am planning on sharing to another room in the house...but considering moving to Sat in the near future (once I find a seller in Melbourne a little closer than the Frankston Pub )
So I figured I could buy the cable boxes now and setup the CS then use the same boxes when I transition over to Sat. Is this possible?

The tuners in the cable and sat boxes are different and dont work on the other system. There was a discussion about how a cable card could be used in a satellite box and a satellite card could be used in a cable box, but the receivers themselves could not be used on the other system.

Thanks cwispy...didnt think it would be that simple.
So anyone know if there is a STB on the market that contains both a Sat and cable tuner inside? Not sure if there is much of a market for it, although itwould be handy for this situation. I guess most people just have 1 or the other.

I think thr dream 7025 han have both types of tunners but expect to pay a few $$ for it

The DM600 has interchangeable tuners if that's what you're looking for, not enough room inside for both, but either work well from my experience.

The interchangeable tuner sounds like a good idea...any idea where to buy the additional tuners how much the extra tuners are worth? I'm just trying to determine if it would be a cost effective solution or if I might be better off just getting a couple of DM500c for now then sell them and get500s when(if) I change over to Sat.

my guess is you could get 2 x 500s and an extra 500c all for the price of a 7020
not too sure bout the 600 - but they prolly dont give them away either

PM cmoore here on Austech, he's a DM distributer, don't forget the DM600 will take a 2.5" HDD as a great and easy-to-use PVR.
