Default UNLocking Huawei E220 USB Modem.

    Hi,

Has anyone had any experience unlocking an E220 manually.

One question I have is, do I need the SIM Card in the modem to unlock the modem?

Just waiting for a second hand E220 to arrive (ebay purchase 19/02/09 for $40.00) from Minto NSW.

I'm going to try and manually unlock it. Currently locked to 3.

Any advice or tips from your experiences?

    cheers

Yes you have to put a sim card in from a different provider then when you open up the dial up software it will ask you for the unlock code you only get ten (10) attempts then your lock out for good.

Best to use the software I mentioned in my other post.

    Hi

    Received E220 today, fast postage.

Surprise, surprise it has a sim card in it.

Will connect the E220 to a windows XP PC and see what happens.

XP installing on another PC as I type this.

    Hi,

Plugged the 3 E220 dongle into the XP PC and the dongle installs the 3 software and when the dongle is recognised it says connecting at 7.2Mbps.

So I think the dongle has had the firmware updated, which means that it will be recognised and work on Vista.

Still not sure if dongle is unlocked or locked to the 3 network.

BUT, the best part is that the SIM card is still active. LOL

I can surf the net and send SMS.

    Cool
