I guess that will also cut back the number of people who bother with gold cards now, as Im sure the footy is one of the main reasons people have them.
Imparja Dumps Ten
FOOTY fans will miss out on half of the free-to-air telecasts of AFL matches under planned changes to Imparja television programming.
And every second grand final telecast is in doubt, at least until 2011 when an existing deal ends.
The Alice Springs based station plans to drop Channel Ten from its programming from Sunday, when it will also drop its nightly local news service.
It will broadcast only Channel Nine programs, a weekly local current affairs program, plus ten one-minute updates of local news daily.
All programs will run to Eastern Standard times instead of Central Standard.
AFL fans will be hit the hardest, losing half of the season’s free-to-air coverage.
Under a rotational agreement with Ten and Seven, the grand final will be shown in Alice Springs this year. But the networks would not say whether the final will be shown in Alice in the coming years.
Imparja chief executive Alistair Feehan said the change was justified because 60 per cent of their viewers were from Queensland, where NRL games rate higher than AFL.
Only about 23 per cent of the Imparja audience is from the Territory.
But Greatorex MLA Matt Conlan said the move was a ‘‘solid blow’’ for Territorians.
Despite the nightly Imparja news being replaced by a national news stream from Brisbane, Mr Feehan said the station was expanding its news service.
And he said it would use the money it saved from not buying Channel Ten to do it.
The broadcaster will employ two extra news teams on top of the two they already have.

Shame it is not good news but obviously the powers to be at Imparja have a lot of faith in Channel Nine.
Luckily I am able to receive terrestial reception (re the channel 10 content)but I feel for the ones who live in remote areas that have relied on the good progamming that Imparja has provided in the past and shall now be the big losers but Imparja's owners must not "have to" cater for the people in the bush as I thought they did.

FFS who gives a flying toss about stick your finger up a bum and wrestle NRL, and we all know nine does only NRL, I see a powerplay behind the scenes here, nine has said to Imparja dump ten or lose us, the #$%%!!!
Hopefully it will mean Ten programs will appear on 7 Central.
Its a joke. The whole point of the $790 Million TV contract was to give regional Australia more of the game and take it to NSW and QLD. Now all those people in regional QLD and NSW have lost half their AFL when its supposed to be expanding, not declining.
Just re-read Imparja's media release about not buying Ten's programming. Didn't WIN not so long ago chucked a wobbly about the high cost of Nine's programs and started to drop some of nine's stuff . Also Nine isn't quite the one with Ten often outrating Nine.
Either way people in Imparja's viewing area should be annoyed with this decision to dump Ten's programs
