Need advice on LPG problem.
Sometimes when driving along @60-@100 kph the van will start to chug, what I have found is the second solenoid before it goes to the converter (this has the filter too) starts to freeze up. the tank could be full, half full, or near empty, makes no difference.
Be it hot, cold, or warm weather, or hot, cold, or warm engine. Makes no difference.
Might do it twice in one day or once a week.
My thoughts are this.
Its trying to pull too much out of the tank.
A solenoid is not opening up enough and thus causing the above problem
I cleaned the filter with this ozone friendly spray, only to get very cold fingers.
To get her going again i just switch it over to petrol for 2ks then wait for the bowl to empty, and then back onto gas, 8/10 this will be ok. Otherwise run petrol till I get to work around 7ks.
Its fitted onto a Holden shuttle van 4cy with carby I think 2.2 or 2.6 1986
Any thoughts welcome.
P.S There is NO LPG gas service centre here in Why alla, there are back yard butchers, these will be my last choice.

sounds like a gas leak to me, have a look around for any sign of a pipe leaking or seals/gaskets.
Had a similar problem once on a Ford Maverick.
In the end we found out that the hoses running coolant from the radiator were all clogged up. Might be worth a check to see if coolant flows freely through there.
As weirdo mentioned could be your cooling system...maybe.
When it chugs next time, check your converter for ice or cool to touch, then if its this, check if you can run a hose though your converters heating passages, it may just be blocked, or your cooling system isnt giving water due to another blockage.
You can get a gasket kit at most LPG fitters ($100) and open her up for a clean and reassemble if she's blocked.
Ice at the soleniod sounds like a gas leak to me.
My thoughts are the converters freezing up and not letting gas through. Shutting it off gives it time to thaw so it can run again.

Coolant in convert is HOT bloody HOT, The converter is right next to the freezing solenoid.
I will spray the area with "snoop" which we use at work, to test for leaks.
I havn't done this sound like a good idea, only why would it leak only now and again?
I will also try and find another solenoid.

If you have any air trapped in the cooling system the converter will freeze and stop the gas flow, this tends to happen where the converter is mounted higher than the radiator or motor - if you have changed coolant or any cooling system components this will be your problem.
Ok just got lpg installed in my ford au.
Is it normal to have to to turn the ignition twice or three times beofore it starts in lpg mode ?
The other thing is i tried asking for the manual for the ipmco system & they said they didn't have one. How can can i get hold of it?

I have an Impco system and it came with a owners manual/service book. You could try asking at another installer.
Its most likely giving you problems because its supposed to start on petrol and automatically switch over to gas or the mixture settings are out of adjustment..
Take it back to where you had it fitted and complain.

yeah he told me after 1500km theres a free check up & he will fine tune it then.
After that its every 20,000km service.
To be honest theres no secret.
All that you need to know is dont press the gas pedal when starting, avoid letting the petrol level drop below 1/4 of a tank, use some petrol every now and then to keep fresh fuel in it, dont swap fuels while driving, rev the engine while parked to swap fuels and service it every 20,000km.
The only nice bit in it is the service chart with what gets done on each service like plugs, leads and converter rebuild.
I threw mine away after a while. LOL

If it's getting frosty on the out side of the solenoid and it isn't leaking gas there then it seems like there is a restriction at the solenoid & the lpg is converting to a gas at the solenoid. Since it's intermitant it could be some shit that moves around and partially blocks the filter some times hence it comes good when its thawed could also be moisture inside the filter and is freezing and forming a restriction. Try taking the solenoid out and checking it out .
seen this a lot of times and usualy its cooling system problems but one other thing it is likely to be, is the excess flow valve in the tank cutting back and this causes freezing due to very little lpg being released into the system and due to that preasure drops the freezing starts, as when preasure drops the lpg warms up and at one point starts to freeze and the nearest point for it to do that is the gas (lpg) lock off valve
Have owned my 4.8 for 3 years and have had the gas tank recertified last year as it was due.
In 2016 had a new temperature sensor put in as it wouldn't run on gas.
Same repairer.
Next chapter.. car had been using coolant up to 1 litre a week . So booked it in to same repairer and get told it needs a new converter
I told him to replace it so he did with a Amr lpg sequential injection converter.
Now after driving around the gas guage beeps and changed over to fuel.
To get it to stop beeping I run it on fuel or pull over and turn car off and restart it to get it back to run on gas. I have taken it back to repairer a d the doesn't know what is going on as the beeping never happens when he has it. The repairer has complained to me that I'm costing him money. He then told me he would put the old converter back in and I can take it to another repairer. I'm running out of time as I'm going on holidays and want to drive my car 1400ks North of Perth Western Australia. Any ideas or directions please please
Apart from resurrecting a thread over 10 years old.... if I was in your place... I would have given up on that repairer a long time ago.
Probably best to cut your losses and take your vehicle to a reputable repairer to have all the issues sorted.
