    Default Strange display problem

My kids old P4 computer is doing strange things. Every time you move the mouse or click it, the screen goes black for a second, then comes back to normal. They "assure" me that they havent done anything. It is running XP Pro and I have run all the usual programs, eg Malware Bytes, Spybot, but they all show nothing wrong. Does anybody here have any clues to help me sort this out? (so they stay off mine)

    Cheers

Maybe corrupt video drivers, that's where I would start after checking cables and card seated correctly.
What happens if I press alt + F4?

I had a similar problem caused by a dry joint on the video card. Wriggling the video cable would prove it.

is it running chipset or vid card?

chipset upgrade or reinstal video drivers

card try taking it out and reseating it, new drivers could also help too

Still playing up guys. I have taken Video card out and reseated it and installed new drivers. This is really annoying me, everything takes so long to do because it keeps going black for a second, then back to normal.

It can only be a graphics card or driver problem.

I had this problem after updating to the newest drivers, I cant remember if i did a system restore to an earlier point or if I uninstalled the new drivers and reinstalled the old ones, either way it fixed the problem.

    Hope this helps.

Got it guys. It was the Graphics card. I tried an old one I had lying around, and it seems fine now.

    Thank you
