    Default Broadband Question

    Hey all.

Am moving out in a few weeks and have just realised no more free internet.

The place i am going to has no active phone line yet and as such I am in need of a hand.

    1. Do i still need to go through Telstra to get a phone number installed?
    2. Once installed and i go on a naked line type thing, will i still need to pay telstra for the line?
    3. Any recommendations for Broadband providers in Perth, currently looking into Amcom.

    Thanks
    John.

Thanks that was very informative. Seems the iiNet one you dont have to go through Telstra at all and its cheaper than Amnet.

    Now to find a modem

    1. Depends which company you use, with internode you dont need an active phone line. It can be done with or without an active phone line
2.Naked means NO phone line rental.

With out knowing what exchange you are on its hard to know what providers you can connect too. I would suggest your two major players for Naked ADSL is IINet and Internode.

Perth is a hard place for ADSL2 and Naked services so dont be suprised if you cant get the service.

Recommendations on modems i would suggest Billion, as they support ADSL threw to Naked ADSL2+ SOHO services. So basically that means every type of ADSL service Billion support in the one device. They also have Built in Wireless, and Voice over IP. The new Billion routers even come with a USB port for 3G Wireless modems as you may wish to run a backup to your ADSL service. They are a stable modem.

BEWARE you get what you pay for. Cheap modems normally mean ADSL problems, slow speeds.

Billion Modems start at $199 bucks up to about $399

Having your Voice over IP device built into the device gives the benefits of whats called QOS, Quality of Service meaning it can determined what is voice data and what is broadband data giving you better quality on phone calls.
