    Default Japan and the Whales

Just curious to see peoples thoughts on this current event as I think we all know that the Japanese are not doing research.

AMID worldwide condemnation, Japan has admitted it kills whales of all ages.

Japan's response to the world outrage which greeted the first images of its whale hunt rested on a claim there was no proof that two minkes video-taped and photographed being hauled on the Japanese whaling ship were mother and baby.

The photograph of the adult and juvenile minkes will form part of evidence the Federal Government has vowed to take to international courts. Scientists had estimated the calf, shown injured and bleeding, to be at suckling age.

I voted for Liars, and they should at least be able to admit they still want to eat them. Unless the rest of the world starts bombing their ships we probably can't really stop them but at least they could be honest and defiant about it.

No even thinking person could support such an act as whaling.

Thats actually my biggest problem with it. If Japan came out and said, we are killing whales purely for the meat factor I might be happier about it. But the research thing just shits me. We had a guy here from Japan, and they were given Whale meat in school in what he said was "an effort to get them to eat it". They all knew exactly what it was, but didn't really care about it because its not really talked about in Japan.

BTW he also said it was some of the worst meat he had ever had, and wouldn't eat it again. Amazing for someone who has the nickname "The Human Vaccum cleaner".

    A few whales????
    A few hundred that is!!!!
Whaling needs to be stopped at any price...and its about time Japan stopped being creedy and selfish and left these fantastic creatures alone.

I am the last person to have much of an opinion on anything Greenpeace related but this is different.

To me , Japan coming all the way down here and doing this in our backyard is a bit rude. To even bother suggesting its for research is an insult to the intelligence of everyone in the country. If Indonesian fisherman take a step too far up the top end , we are all over them. Yet even though Australian's courts have deemed Japan's actions illegal , the Australian Government doesnt do anything but send observers to watch. I also think Greenpeaces efforts are totally pathetic. While Sea Shepard were there , the whalers didnt get a single whale. As soon as they left , they harpoon whales while our government observers watch.

Japan has fished its own waters and now are on the look out for somewhere else to harvest seafood. They have eaten all their dolphins ( Caution : Graphic Footage ) and dont really seem to mind if their execution methods work or fail before cutting them up.

So in my opinion , they should be arrested next year ( after being given due warning at the end of this " season " ) should they arrive and harpoon a whale and have their ships confiscated just as they do to the Indonesians.

My 2 cents worth of course.....imagine if we had a government with balls that actually did it

Killing whales for research and scientific purpouses my ar*e!

I have spent one month a year, since the early 90s in Wakayama and Osaka, Japan.
I can tell you that the serving of whale meat for eating is well hidden from westeners and common in exclusive resturants.
After a few years, some influentual Japaneese freinds started taking me to "special" resturants that served it very hush hush. I can tell you that its taste is no big deal. Infact after 3 small cubes i gave up on it and my freinds looked bewilderd and offended.

Knowing the Japaneese mentality, i dont think they give a damm about world opinion.
The $ rules and whale is very, very expensive in Japan.

Just like in the past wars they are evil and cruel bastards.
I wonder what the yanks would do to them if they hunted for whales in their jurisdiction. They would have their collective rrses handed to them on a plate in the name of scientific research.

If you want some action for your money you would be better off making a donation to Sea Shepard.

Greenpeace have taken about as much action as the Australian Government. Although I have never thought much of them , at least they used to have a red hot go Now they have gone all " lets send a petition'ish ".

Everybodys gotta eat, who are we to tell them what to eat?
Having said that I do think that if they want to hunt whales they should do it in their own backyard.

    Some cultures eat dogs.
We eat cows while some cultures believe they are sacred, what would you do if they started jumping up and down telling us we couldn't kill cows?

So nothing has changed in the Japanese culture, inflicting pain to others is just part of their lifestyle.

Governments have been to gutless to stand up to the Japanese for fear of Loss of the big $$$.

Japan is in trouble with overpopulation as are many other countries . Humans are becoming the the new plague of the earth .All these countries need to control their breeding . You cant go for growth and more growth .The answer is not sending their excess people to other countries either.

As we have seen recently Australia has big water issues and energy is another looming problem . Who really wants all our major cities with 2 x the amount of people in them its hard enough to move now.
With oil running out and water shortages more people mean less to go around.

So if the Japanese cant feed their people form there own back yard they need
need to take steps to fix their problem.

I'm for neutral growth worldwide economist will argue we need growth

Lets make one thing clear here, I do not support whaling at all.

I'm pretty happy to see any other kind of meat killed and eaten, even baby sheep. Lamb roast is very tasty.

    Hypocrite?

    Yes.

    Conscience?

    Yes

Muses: Maybe I should become a vegetarian.

Meat is murder, tasty, tasty murder.
