    Default convert to amv

    Hi,

My XP sysytem doesn't like a few of the normal conversion progs, and gets the send error to microsoft message.

I just want to convert some avi's etc to amv format for a cheap laser mp4 player.

I have tried convert to amv, as well as amv convert tool..but as above.

Anyone recommend another freeware type tool?

    Thanks

Knocked myself around silly trying to get an amv conversion happening.

I'm certain I have a codec issue, but dunno how to solve it.

The program AMV Video Convert Tool loads up ok,but it will not show video when I play the file to be converted, yet I hear the audio. After getting the "Success" message that indicates it can convert it, I then try, but get the other windows message saying "amvtransform.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Looking at the site , it suggests it is codec related, and says to install K-Lite Mega Codec Pack , but I already have that.

If I grab an amv. demo downloadable file from the same site, and load this directly to the mp player, it works straight away, so there is no issue with the mp player.

The issue remains, that for some reason, my pc won't convert any format to an amv. file??

I guess the next thing to do is try the whole lot again on my lappy, and see if that works, however, I still would like to know why the main pc does not want to play the game, if anyone can shed the light?

    from another site

For the AMV Convert tool to install correctly and work, you need to have:
    1. Windows Media Player 9.0 or above.
    2. DirectX 9.0 or above
    3. Correct codecs installed on your computer.

    reinstalling media player might help

also i use ffshow for divx/xvid etc might help fix your codec problem if you instal it

    Thanks NoService..
    Got parts 1 2 and 3 covered.

    Downloaded your suggestion and installed..

Progressed a little..now get video and "success", however when convert button pressed, get the dreaded "amvtransform.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." message again.

    Grrr..thanks anyhow.

probably a silly question but have you tried a few different video files?

ive had some avis/divx clips that give me the same error then others will work ok.

the ones that give me the error i reconvert to avi using winavi then use amv convertor again and it works. seems some files amv convert dont like.

failing that id uninstal klite codec pack and instal cc codec pack which i also have installed

    good luck
