    Default Eprom programming question

A question for all you eprom programming Guru's.
The story is I accidentally fed my telescope drive hand piece the wrong voltage, result no function. The replacement obtained looks identical but runs the steppers 10% slow. After a lot of googling and talking with suppliers it seems while the hardware is identical inside and out, there is a difference in the eprom programming. Probably as simple as a different multiplier for the crystal reference frequency.
Taiwan makers seemingly will not supply a replacement eprom or programming details, only a complete handset.
Is it possible to download the program, change the parameter and reload it either to the existing chip or a blank one.
Chip is Hyundai GMS97L51 made in Korea, also has Siemens at the bottom.

Depending on how bad you damaged the original maybe you could remove the chip from the original and put it in the new one.
You may not be able to read the originals as they may be copy protected.
Looking at the data sheet your chips are OTP (one time programmable) so if you can read it you will need a new chip to program and replace it

it is not a eprom it is a CPU/flash.
find out what the new one's crystal is and see if it works ok when the same one is put in.
it may have a security bit and you wont be able to copy it.

I've checked the crystals and they have the same numbers, also tried swapping the old IC into the new controller and it doesn't fire up. Looks like I damaged the it with the over voltage. Managed to find a third controller and steppers on the Ice In Space classifieds, which I'll be VERY carefull with, been an expensive mistake
The controller is yer basic one, just the RA axis stepper running at constant speed with over ride buttons for fast slewing, and manual buttons on the DEC axis, no fancy GOTO. Program would be pretty simple I imagine. I'll do some more googling and see if there's a data sheet available.
    Thanks for the advice guys.
