Canon IP4000 -
I could do with a little advice on a good printer for the CDs and DVDs that I burn. My handwriting turns a good burn into something that looks horribly amateurish. I already have a nice Epson multifunction printer that does everything else I need, but it won't print on CDs and I always have so much trouble lining up those paper labels. Is there anything reasonably compact that you would recommend? I know that there are professional printers that only do CDs/DVDs, but they are very expensive. Any feedback absorbed like a sponge.

Hi
I use a Epson R210.
I am not sure if it is still a current model, but for the $200 odd I paid for it, it works very well on CD's and DVD.

I used to have a Canon i865 which produced very good prints and also came with easy to use software. I sold it and got a second hand Canon MP810 on eBay,this has the added advantage that you can use the original CD/DVD and it will automatically copy and print the label on a blank. There are newer Canon models available around the $200 mark, but I'm quite happy with the Ebay purchase for $76.
Cheers.
epson stylus photo R230 cost $139 if i remember correct.

Still using the old i865. Fantastic ink is very cheap. Just make sure what ever you get you can get good quality but also fairly cheap inks.
If I want too,I can, I will
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Good food for thought. I must check out eBay as suptob suggested too.
I am using a Canon Pixma Ip4200, does a great job even it standard and low
My aunt is using a Epson R210 with a continuos ink feed
Canon Pixma, either an IP or MP with scanner. I had used Epsoms previously but the 3 i had died not long after warranty expired - never again.
Out of the current Canon printer range, the IP4500 and the IP4600 both do cd printers. Which one is better? Everybody will tell you get the ip4500 even though ist an older model.
I've been using the IP4200. Myself and love it. Prints everything excellent. So I'd recommend a cannon prixma ip4500.
Inks for ip4200/4500 cost me
retail the original inks cost $26. I pickup
originals inks for $19
Compatable Chipped ink for $9
and unchipped for $6
I use an Epson R390. It's not because i own an epson but i believe the software to print cd/dvd is more user friendly than canon.
Epson Rx690 MultiFunction.....Has great labeling software
I have been using an Epson R350 for the last two years. Brilliant. Prints discs easy as and the results are great.
Due to a fark-up I ended up with two of them. One is still new in the box - only been used a couple of times to print test pages.
If you don't mind paying the shipping from NZ to Oz, I'd be happy to sell it for a modest price.
What I would like to find is who supplies the clear stick-on labels for discs. I've seen them used on CDs - they're like a stamp-on label but they're see-through and simply protect the label side of the disc. Quite important considering the inks are not waterproof!
I recently emailed Epson to enquire as to whether their "Durabrite" inks would work in this machine. The short answer is no.
I then asked them if they make a machine that will print discs, that also uses Durabrite inks. Answer - no.
For those who don't know what Durabrite ink is - it's a proprietary Epson ink that has special polymers added which render the printed surface impervious to water, fading, wear etc. Photos printed with it are supposed to last quite a few years.
I just hope they make a disc printing machine one day that uses this technology.
@ studio1 .i wouldnt go sticking labels on discs. you can get a clear spray to seal.
just bought a hp photosmart c5300 all-in-one only cost $137.00 at officeworks
printed a few dvd yesterday so far so good
Mcga texta works good also...
Old Dog, No Flies
i got a canon ip4500 from tandy on clearance. they are exceptionally good and the ink lasts forever. they have been been replaced with the ip4600 which doesnt take cheapy ink carts or something but i refil my original carts anyway so it prolly doesnt matter. i get well over 100 discs done on high quality before ink needs replacing.
most new dvd burners have lightscribe in it aswell. no need for a printer just flip the disc over in the burner and it will etch it into the disc. does need special disc's thou. worth checkn out if u like ur disc's to look good.
@ ageno2gen1 and Farmerjack01, seeing this thread was started in march,
do u think there is a possibility he has acquired a printer by now ???
