install Bandwidth.Monitor on them all it will tell you what they are using and if anything is running in the background when no one is actually using the comp
Hi all
I have a few pc's connected to our home wireless network all accessing the internet via a netgear wireless router. I am using the encryption software it came with and only allowing certain Mac address's access. So I have know doubt it is one of the kid(s) hogging all our downloads on their pc. Is there any software I can use which will log(even limit if possible) what each pc uses. This way there might some downloads for me to use and I won't have to put up with dial speed half way through the month.
Thanx in advance
If I want too,I can, I will

Look for the bedroom with boxes of tissues.
Porn takes lots of bandwidth......................
Kids tend to use a lot of bandwidth downloading music & (especially) video's.
Online gaming can also chew it up too.
What about online games(flash/java games etc) on kids sites like abc. nickelodeon and the likes

You could go buy a switch from ebay that has console control. Then log into the console and limit each port to 128k per port. then plug the kids computer into those ports. You can pick one up for 100 bucks with 24 ports. I know it is overkill but it will eliminate your issues and give them enough bandwidth to do what they want without killing the network.
If you have another pc and some free time have a look at setting up a Smoothwall.
