Default Need help on repair Ford smartlock system

    Hi ppl
a friend of mine was stranded when his smartlock in his 96 EF Ford failed.
anyone here know where its located so we can remove/replace it and a potential "change over" option, ie supplier of the modules at a fair price .

i will have a look for typical issues, dry joints etc when i remove it. (unless its potted)

BTW he got the car going again by turning the ignition on and just leaving it for 1/2 hour, which disables the immobiliser and now the car goes.
but remote wont work, he can only use the key to lock /unlock vehicle

    regards lee

Maybe try resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery for awhile?

It could be the BEM module

give the lower left hand side of the dash where your left knee would sit on the drivers side a couple of wacks lol, a few people on here have found it works

It's the coloured plastic box above the handbrake in most Fords, you have to remove the handbrake to get at it from memory.

Your right on the hitting the dash, but an EF would be smartsheild not BEM, unless its a Fairlane or LTD

    Turn key to crank position...

Pull gearstick towards the letter N

    Car magically starts.

This is the most common fault I saw when working for NRMA. The look on the car owner's face was priceless.

This may not be your problem, but I saw it so often it's worth a shot.

You can reset the immobliser, check the aussie ford forums, its something like turn the key to on, turn the demister on, off, on they locks should go up and down then press the remote

96 Ford bang under the steerring columm when turning the key, it will start

And to really keep this thread rolling.

I can't remember what model it was, but one of the wagons wouldn't start if the interior light in back had a busted globe.

    Ford do some funny stuff.
