maybe your standard kinston ram may be a worry later on
otherwise
Hi,
I have a computer that I want to upgrade. Here are its specs:
Windows Vista Premium
Intel E6750
Gigabyte GA-p35-D53
Seagate 500 G/B sataII Hard drive
4x1 Gig DDR800 Memory Kingston
Asus G_Force 8600 GT Graphics Card
Now I have a budget of $1000 and think that it would be best to upgrade my graphics card and with whatever is left over (if anything) to go buy the latest Samsung widescreen LCD Monitor.
Is there anything else that requires upgrading? I use my computer mainly for watching movies and online games, including Second Life.
What kind of Graphics Card do you recommend?
Also, what monitor is the best value? I'm looking at 22"

You could upgrade from Vista to XP ! That would boost performance straight away
When I was a kid, I used to have an imaginary friend. I thought he went everywhere with me. I could talk to him and he could hear me, and he could grant me wishes and stuff too. But then I grew up, and stopped going to church.

Seeing as it's a board I would upgrade your memory to DDR2 1066 for a kick off, further more, for games the 6750 is now somewhat dated so I would also look at getting into one of the higher end Core2 CPU's say a Q9650 or a QX9650, needless to say before either of these options would work in your board you would need to update the BIOS to at least F9b or higher, I've also assumed your MOBO is a Revision 1.1 board.
Once those items were updated then I would look at your video card.
If you left you system as is and just updated the Video card you would be achieving very, very little as is the case with almost everything on or in a PC any singular result is dependent on a number of variables and peripherals.

Today is the final straw, I am going to call my computer store and have them order parts for my upgrade. However, since this original post was sent quite a while ago. I wonder, do any of these suggestions change due to new technologies being introduced during that time?
lol takes ya 7 months to decide ?

Nope, other things came up in the meantime, only now do I find myself really needing to upgrade.
