    hello there, im just wondering is there anyway online to estimate how far away you are from your internet exchange

    Hi Conor,
    has a tool that shows the location of your exchange and adsl2 coverage on a google map. -Hope that helps

    remember that is only line of sight not the cable route it maybe a bit longer

    You would be better using a GPS and calculating the route from your exchange to your house. Cables generally follow roads , not a straight line so it should be a more accurate answer.

    best way is to go into your modem info page and check your attenuation on up and down links.

    something like this:

    Attenuation (dB): 31.5 14.8
    Output Power (dBm): -51.2 12.8
    Attainable Rate (Kbps): 19992 1104

    post the readings here...

    if you go here: and enter your phone number in the 'broadband choice' section it will give you a list of providers who service your area.

    looking at your figures, you should get maximum sync speed on adsl1 or 2+

    just checked his setup on Fremnet and this is what i got ??

    attenuation (dB) = 16
    Cable Loss (dB/km) – Default 13.81
    Attainable Rate (ADSL1) – kbit/s 8000
    Attainable Rate (ADSL2) – kbit/s 21707
    Distance to exchange (Meters) 1159
