AV cabling and quality
if I use different types of cables , will any quality be lost ?
eg I use a hdmi for the monitor out but use component for av in , will I lose quality on component or will it stay the same ? I do not imagine it will get any worse ??

It should stay the same as far as I am aware HDMI and Component reproduce the same quality.
HDMI is fully digital (carrying video, audio and control data)
Component is analogue video-only.
Providing you use decent-quality cables (not the ultra-cheap, thin cables that are often supplied with equipment) component has excellent quality.
just spent half the day trying to get all the shit working , then figured out that with the amp whatever cable I use to monitor I have to use for everything else , what a bastard of an idea
oh well got around that I am using mainly component and some standard av and the using the optical out for sound through the amp
thanks for the info as well guys

how many hdmi do you need?
Component is Analogue, it is the best analogue signal but it is not digital.
HDMI and DVI are digital.
If you have an AMP it should allow a few HDMI in & 1 out, or a few component in & 1 component out.
model of amp and what you are trying to connect and more detail can be given.
the amp is sherwood
and it has one hdmi in and two out
however I have found for some reason that it will only work if you use the same cables as the one you use for the monitor out .
If I plug most of the stuff in the TV the amp works fine using an optical cable . that said i have the games consoles on comonent running fine direct to the amp
the model is a Sherwood RD-6513

yeah the amp wont upconvert the picture therefore whatever you go in with, it has to come out with. To be able to do it you would need an amp which upconverts but from memory they kick off from about 800 bucks
cool , everything is running off component atm . through the telly and amp and digital sound via optical . the only that does not run off component is the fox box
