    Default improving foxtel piccie

can you do this on a large plasma
everything is outstanding except for foxtel , it is a fairly good pic , but blurry . Atm it is just standard AV cables , if I use a S video or a scart ot component will there be any improvement ?

    Composite is all three colours mixed together. ie - R + G + B

Component is all three colours seperate & on their own cables.
Because of this, component has 3 times the bandwidth, so more of the signal makes it to the set. Component will always be beter than composite.

If you have the correct scart to component (red, green, blue ( + red / white for audio)) then yep, use it

Use composite ( yellow ( + red / white for audio)) as a last resort only - the quality will be worse on composite due to all three colours being 'squashed' onto the one single cable

sorry to thread jump but thanks for that info fernbay you just cleared up my picture.

ive researched around but that was the most concise explanation of composite v component that ive read, plain n simple.

i went and bought new composite cables and austar is now watchable on the 50".......the pictures heaps better.

im off to watch a crap load of real insurance ads now on a clearer picture, i might even but a ped egg and a ringtone now i can see them clearly.

    leaves room laughing........................

if you get hold of the component to scart, go into your fox settings and change the picture to YUV.

I tried the scart to S-video on the fox decoder last night and I got a B&W picture full of lines ??? the S-video cable worked fine with other things , is there a setting on the decoder to change as well for that ?
Have to contact foxtel anyway the last few months the box has been freezing and generally playing up . Anyone have a number to contact them so that I actually get to talk to someone and not get that stupid auto thing

When you phone them, just choose the option to pay your bill - That always seems to get a human being answering for some reason - I guess they want your $$$

got em , went via telstra , a tech is coming out tommorow , they tried to get me to upgrade to an IQ , half the standard rate , $50 install and $5/month with no changes to package .
Also managed to get the s-video to output in colour , there is a setting to get it to do so , it does make a slight improvement
