    Default Strong 4653X/4658X - Faults

    Hi guys,

just wanting to check if anyone is having issues with there Strong 4653X/4658X?

recent issues if had... only 2 so far

1, Unit resets from time to time.
2, Change of channel by it self (This happended twice)

only the 2 i think is good, is anyone having the same or anything else?

also i was wondering how hot is hot for a gamma card? i take mine out and it feels warm but im not sure whats hot and whats to hot that can cause damage..

    all inputs will be great.

    My 4658x
Never reset and no channel changes unless I tell it.
I've found it the most reliable decoder yet {had it about 6 months} don't have a whitey so can't help there.Running 105p firmware at the moment.

    The only problems were;
The gamma card was a little thiner than regular cards. The contact switch in the card reader would not register the card. A little tape on the card to thicken it a little fixed it.
The gamma cards run a little too hot. When touching the area opposite the contacts, they are a little too warm. How warm? Just under the temp that would have you momentarly hesitate on contact. Hard to put into words.

Selectv irdeto cards do not run hot.
Selectv cards are not too thin.

Box does not change channels on its own.
Box does not reset on its own.
    Nothing i/r interfering?

Gamma's aren't any thinner than any other card. Yes I also have a select card No I'm not getting the micrometer out! I reckon these card slot switch activation issues are very few.
I have read there were simillar issues with some versions of firmware. Stick to the factory released versions and you shouldn't have an issue. I've had a couple of boxes and purchased them for friends also and not issues what so ever.
It's funny today I had to stick my whitey back in my strong for a bit. I stuck it in the cam for a bit and also had it in the slot. Today I reckon it was cooler in the slot than the cam. But if you asked me yesterday I would of said the opposite!!!

Yep your right Leroy Patrol, just put a micro on them and they are about the same.
Did note they have the same flex also.
I should have choosen my words more carefully.

Either way the gamma card was fine when new, just needed thickening after a week or so of use.

I have noted other members also thickening gammas to overcome the same problem.

I wonder if the heat is flexing the cards?

Seems to be a regular problem, but havent opened the unit to investigate further.

I just got back for the garage also. I couldn't fine the micrometer or the vernier so I swiped both cards along my plumbers crack and each card was etched with the same amount of........

I have a Strong 4658X now I have not experienced the above problems either. AS for gamma heat I read once before the Austech site crash that the gamma draws much higher current when operating than other cards and that is why they get hot. I have not tested this but it rings true with me. As for heat a gamma in a Strong 4658x with a separate cam, it does not get any more hot than other boxes I have used with separate cams such as Topfield and Xtreme. Strong is a good box but in my opinion not as good as Topfield.

Take the batteries out of the remote just to
    eliminate that side of things
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all

    Hi,

I use to have this happen to me with the humax box back in the goldie days.

Check to see if you donot have the timer set to change the channels.

Take note which channel is is going to & what time it is happening.

Had me stuffed for a while as well.

    Hope this solves your problem.

    Cheers

I’ve mentioned this on Vetrun, but I'll repeat it here, as it seems relevant....

If I turn my 4658X off when it’s on Imparja or NITV on D1, it gets stuck on that channel next time it’s turned on, unless I kill the signal from the dish. The response to most buttons on the remote control is a brief "Please wait".

I thought that it may have been something to do with hidden PIDS, but AJ on C1 doesn’t do it.

does anyone else find that the egp shows "no information" until you select a channel to preview, once your previewing the channel all the channels on the current egp page get the epg info but if you scroll down to the next page it displays no information until you preview another channel

    this is on a 4658x
