Default Ford au 2 clock lamp

The clock lamp decided to Sh*t itself & it looks like a major job to replace it. Any of you clever dicks out there able to give me an easy way of replacing it?
I have a manual but I cannot find any reference.
    Thanks.

Ok, seeing as I'm on holiday I'll pull the one out of the XR8 and have a look, the bulbs blown in it too. I might look at an led replacement though.

I can see the clock but only during daylight hours, there is no backlight at night.
It's never been an issue I cared about, time is relative after all. Having said that I have other work to do behind the dash anyway, so I'll get out the camera and work it out and post up something here and on my preferred car forum too.

OK the first thing will be to get the dash insert out of the car. You will need to remove the original radio or whatever replaces it as there are two 'bolts' behind it and two behind the ashtray to remove before pulling the whole assembly loose. A couple of old photos are attached of the extractor keys in the original deck from mine.

It is also strongly recommended the you disconnect the cable to the heater control behind the glove box. I'll get a photo up shortly.

The keys can be gotten from WES or Wagner electronics in Sydney, or maybe borrowed from ford or your local car audio guy.

I broke the heater control in mine trying to refit the vaccuum lines to the back of the dash.

The two screws behind the ashtray.

The two behind the deck are long time history in mine now.

Once you have those out you should be able to pry the whole facia forward carefully and disconnect the wires to the lighter and fan controls and clock.

Then the clock is only attached using two screws,

and a small flat blade screwdriver will get the lamp out of the clock,

The lamp is a 12 volt "grain of wheat" style bulb with the legs wrapped around a plastic base to give contacts to the board in the clock, a little messing around with a scalpel will get the legs out of the holder and with care wrapping a new one will be fairly straight forward too; but heres the thing I have no idea if ford sells the bulbs in or out of the holder if at all. I'd just get one from WES too personally and DIY.

If the photo links aren't working let me know and I'll throw them up on photobucket instead or msn or hotmail.

Good posts Redwight, nice and easy to understand, lucky you were due for repairs on your car too.

Actually until I can afford the heater control it went straight back in the car, I'll get to it but it's no big deal. Like I said I'm on holidays and the timing was right, so I just did it.
