Question Strange CD in the post.

Anyone get this CD from MS Australia?

Are they looking for new revenue streams in the economic slow down?
We are not a reseller, of MS products nor computer hardware.
But it was personally addressed to the manager.

We take any threat to your business personally.

    Software pirates are operating everywhere.
Something as small as this, can be a big threat to your business.
Right now dishonest resellers are operating in your area – they’re selling illegal software at a fraction of the original price, making it virtually impossible for your business to compete.

Take the first step to protect your business.
    Insert this CD.”

Gee, you dont get any more suss than that, I would like to see what is on the CD, especially which file/s are initiated by the Autorun file.

Disable your CD's autorun and see whats on the CD, just dont execute anything.

If you were anything like me, you would wack the CD in a standalone spare PC with no internet or network access and use software to track every file and change it makes on your system.

I bet it has been designed to gather critical business info and send it to a remote computer or email address.

    Just my 2 bobs worth.

Why not contact MS Australia and ask them if it is legitimate.
If it's not, they will no doubt be glad you have advised them.

Of course we all know what date it is.

I think you can just press the shift key when inserting it, rather than the whole rigmarole with the disabling autorun.

I wouldn't trust it on a good machine.
Do it on a non networked old one.

The CD was white with a handwritten print of 'Windows XP'
One pdf file titled: Software Piracy In Your Area.pdf
    With links to

With XP being officially phased out, they are hell bent in eliminating XP as a client, with this effort and constant WGA updates, etc.

    In the bin...
