Default Selectv STB SCART VS RCA picture quality?

    hi guys,

i own Selectv with Sony 40" LCD 40D series TV.

currently, i connect the Selectv 3030 set topbox to TV via RCA component cable. i also see this STB provide SCART output.

    1. will the SCART picture quality output be better than RCA?

    2. if quality is better, which converter should i buy? SCART to 6-RCA or SCART to 3-RCA? what is the difference between these two?

you can see the picture of these 2 cables here

your help is much appreciated.. thanks

get a good quality scart to component lead instead of RCA. It will improve the picture a bit more on a LCD

Are you sure it's component you are currently using? (possibly composite, red/white/yellow?)

AFAIK, component is only available from the SCART connector, so you would need a SCART out to component RCA plus audio cable.

Neither of the links show an example of that cable.

    They are both composite only.

The difference between the 3 RCA and 6 RCA is that the 6 RCA is two-way. eg: in/out, typically for record/playback on a VCR etc.

Yes, that's the correct cable for SCART component.

Results vary, depending on the box, screen used and program bitrate encoding.

Generally speaking, component should provide sharper pictures and better colour reproduction, compared to composite.

I recommend you buy your cable locally from electronics or audio store rather than ebay. There's a chance , depending on what component video output formats your SelecTV receiver supports (I tried to find a manual for it online but couldn't).

If your two systems aren't compatible you'll want to be able to return your SCART-to-Component cable, eg to exchange for SCART-to-SVideo. If you buy from ebay that won't be an option. Also you run the risk of getting poor quality rubbish unless you inspect before buying.

My STB came with the lead, SCART to green/blue/red & left/right audio, It also has a standard composite yellow plug in addition to the connector on the back of the STB.

I use green/blue/red on the SCART connector to my 40" LCD and the standard yellow rca goes to my pc for recording/streaming.

In all honesty I really don't see much of a difference between the two as picture quality is fairly average to start with, however always opt for the best connection where possible.
