Default Get Garmin OzTopo into Mapsource

Get Garmin OzTopo into Mapsource for sending to GPS and mixing with other map products!

I had to figure this method out because the method of naming precompiled Garmin map
image files gpsmapsupp.img, gpsmapsup2.img, etc. only works for Garmin Mobile PC, and maybe XT (Mobile & PDA apps).
It doesn't work for Garmin hardware GPS units, so you can't have the OzTopo and City Navigator maps on the GPS at the same time
The solution is to split the precompiled image, and register it with Windows Mapsource installation.
From there you can send maps from both map products to the GPS unit

Download OzTopo precompiled unit image file here:

Posted by WhiteOx, or here (torrent client required) :
    )

Download gmaptool from here (torrent client required) :

    Download M3 Malsingmaps from here:

(You may need to register with the forum to do so, or find it somewhere else)

Don't worry about the other programs that come with gmaptool, you can use the dos app alone.
gmaptool splits the GPS unit img file into seperate img files for Mapsource.
Put the OzTopo img file (gpsmapsupp.img) in a folder somewhere with gmaptool.
Open Windows Command Prompt (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories),
Now assuming the folder containing gmaptool and the img file is on D drive,
and in a folder called "hack", the command line will be:

    f:hack\gmaptool -S f:\gpsmapsupp.img

Remember to use uppercase S for the -S parameter in the command line.
gmap will split the files into the destination folder "Hack"
Delete the original gpsmapsupp.img file, you've finished with it.

Delete every img file that was produced that does not have the 200 prefix.
Most file WILL have 200 prefix, (ie. 200XXXX.img). These are the files you want to keep.
Everything else is part of the Tracks4Australia product, and can be discarded.

If you want to install Tracks4Australia later, just get it here:

and do it properly and neatly for free! No need to do it here.

Now you should have a folder called Hack with a lot of img files with 200 prefix in it.
If you do not already have Garmin Mapsource application installed, do it now.

Start the M3 Mapsource manager program from Malsingmaps.
Click the "New" button and browse to the hack folder.
Select roughly one third of the image files in the hack folder, taking note of the last
selected file name, and they will appear in the list.
(you cannot select them all at once so this has to be done in stages).
Give this map set a name such as "OzTopo_A", and then click "Create Mapset".
You will have to wait some time for the process to complete, and then you can repeat
the process for the other two thirds of the img files.

The two middle links that finish >> ( download torrent) - TPB << for me goto eBay. Very interesting post though.
Can this be put on a SD card without going through what you have done. Tnx.

That's interesting, they go to ebay for me too, but they are entered correctly.

    Code:
    ://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4616518/Garmin_MapSource_Australia_topo_OZtopo_v1_(not_locked)

    ://thepiratebay.org/torrent/3944092/Garmin__Import_maps_from_gmapsupp.img_to_Mapsource
just add the http prefix to these

You can just chuck the original img onto sd card and it works, WhiteOx posted it in a link ages ago,
but you can't also have city nav or any other product running simultaneously that way.

    f:hack\gmaptool -S f:\gpsmapsupp.img
    Oops, this should read:

    D:hack\gmaptool -S D:hack\gpsmapsupp.img

but I can't seem to edit the original post.
