Question deleting local area network and reset under xp??

I have been reading how to delete local area network card or unistall then install
under xp and had no problem at this but every time i do this it gives it a new area network number eg area network1 but now is called area network 2 and if i unistall and reinstall it will be called area network 3.
Is there away to clear this problem so when i reinstall it will be area network one.
Yes i have even renamed this back to area network one but in the background some where it is still area network3 or what ever??
    Any help.
    Thanks

    Default

if you remove all your network devices ( also double check by going to device manager - view - show hidden devices ) then go into your registy ( make sure you have a backup of course as i take no responsibility if you kill it! go to local machine - system - controlset001 - control - network

delete the ones you no longer need and reinstall your card it should come back fine.
