    Default TPS51020 out of a Asus Laptop

    Has any had any dealings with these IC's, TPS51020

    I have a laptop that has all power rails by the look LOL (I hate working on laptop motherboards ) but she wont turn on. But this IC is sure getting hot and the bloody thing bit me



    When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all

    Mate I might be wrong but is that the inverter to run the backlights for the panel.

    Just another reason I won't service laptops to component level. Replacing DC jacks is about my limit, after that, it takes flying lessons.

    Nah its no inverter Its DC out .The chips prolly a high freq pwm .
    Reminds me of the crappy power supply in some old Akai VCRs .
    Used the same idea.

    Yeah, it reminds me of the SG3524 PWM chip for generating + and - supplies off a single input.
    I'll second Oscar's sympathy - sorry ya got bit by it. Those things bloody hurt.

    thanks guys i found a guy in NZ that might be able to post one over for $30 or i can get one from USA for about $2.50 plus postage

    hey mate, you should have little trouble getting this over the internet from somewhere. Have you got a SMT rework station?
