I have had a couple of Acer laptops where the Acer uses a 3rd party wireless software and when most people use windows to control there wireless network cards and they can't figure out why the settings just keep changing
Hello Guys and Girls,
I have currently got a major headache, with Toshiba A9 laptops, running windows xp and wireless internet...
everytime a laptop gets shutdown, the wireless adaptor needs to be repaird. else it just gets limited or no connectivity.
any ideas? I have got 80 laptops here all with the same problem
could it be that the wireless certificate im runing (edupass) is the same for all laptops or is that fine?

When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all
i'm using windows xp for the wireless connection. as they are for young students.
i have to login as admin, reset the wireless, and network works. so i can then log off. and log a student in.... if you restart the computer, it will work. if you shutdown. it wont.
it picks up the w/less as unsecured. then gets a 169 address and goes to limited connectivity
edit:
downloaded latest drivers, and a fix and still same problem
Have you tried not using Windows Zero config to control connection and use the 3rd party software
What version service pack, with my usb dlink dwa-110 i had to update the software when i updated to service pack 3
windows xp with SP3
i'll try the toshiba wireless setup now
ok... update...
the certificate was the same for all toshiba's, so what i done, was:
restored the laptop using the toshiba cd
made a ghost image and reimaged all the laptops, so they are all factory settings.
i have created a certificate for EVERY laptop and i started installing them
same problem, but now i cant even log into the domain unless im hard wired.
log in as localadmin, (machine) and then, it keeps getting the 169 address, until i repair the connection, then it gets the proper address.
any ideas? these are driving me up the wall
after ghosting, i have tried both toshiba, and windows wireless, BUT the problem is before that, as they are unable to login...
i jsut figured out... ill check the bios...
1: is the connection set as the main access point.
2: are there other wireless connections visible and if so they might be hijacking with a stronger signal.
3: in the access point setup all the comps individually and have it as mac setup and set a fixed ip for each mac address , this way when they connect they automatically get the same ip every time.
4: use windows to setup and run the wireless , this way there is no conflict.
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
1: yes
2: there is only one network in range, mine
3: hahah naaa
4: im now using windows
I have set up 3 more laptops since ghosting them again.
ALL side by side
one of them is connected to wireless. urrently remoting to the sever, the other 2:
one cannot login to the domain
the other is waiting while the domain list is created
all used different certificates, and set up identically
im thinking its a problem with toshiba a9 laptops? as the compaq's work perfectly, and the IBM's work
