Default Connecting a Sony receiver to Samsung LCD TV

I'm trying to connect a Sony receiver to my Samsung LCD TV but i don't get a picture on the tv?
I have connected the receiver to the tv via hdmi cable and when i select the HDMI1 option on the tv is comes up with a no signal error and i have also made sure the tv option is selected on the receiver
I also want everything to go through to the receiver such as dvd player, ps3, blu ray player etc...

What am i doing wrong and how can i connect these all together.
Sorry i do not know the model number for the receiver. Its a 7.1ch sony receiver.

Do your Blu-Ray player work on the screen when connected directly to it with the same HDMI cable?

Have you tried other HDMI inputs on the screen?

Have you tried connecting the receiver to the screen via component?

But have you connected the DVD via HDMI and component directly to the screen... not via the receiver?

Process of elimination to determine where the problem is. The receiver, the screen or cables.

That narrows it down to settings on the receiver, or a fault with the receiver.

connect all things to the reciever with composite cables, if that works then try using different cables (HDMI) last.

I'm using HDMI-HDMI, i have tried connecting through composite still not working though, no picture on screen.
Will try again later and play around with the settings on the receiver, might also help if i posted the model number of the receiver which i will do later today.

I have a blu ray player connected directly to my samsung lcd with a fat hdmi cable but still get the no signal error you describe, at first i used the supplied samsung hdmi cable but then read that they were crap and could cause the problem i have- new cable hasnt done squat. Generally find this will all inputs except composite video on AV1 input.

    Bump

    Still not having any luck

From what i know i should just connect my receiver to the tv via hdmi cable, change the input on tv to hdmi1 and change the input on the receiver to tv and it should just work, right?? I have also tried plugging in the dvd player to the receiover via av1 while the receiver connected to the tv via hdmi but no luck.
