Question Antenna requirements for Newtown ?

My son lives in a block of units in Newtown and is having trouble receiving reliable digital reception.
He wants to try an antenna from his balcony rather than hassle the landlord
    re fixing the common antenna
What size and type of antenna does he need and to what direction does he face the antenna.??
I suggested Kings Cross any help would be appreciated

In Newtown, it's possible your son is receiving too much signal., get him to try an attenuator from his local Dick Smith, if it fails he can take it back within 14 days of purchase for a no questions asked full refund.

Having so much signal, he should be able to get enough signal on a set of rabbit ears (assuming he has good Line of Sight to Artarman/Gore Hill/Willoughby).

If he uses rabbit ears and he has problems, ask him to check the signal levels using the STB (only as a guide), and to use a variable attenuator, and to slowly increase attenuation until picture shows up, and keep going until the picture stops breaking up.

I am unsure as to whether he has line of sight to the places you suggested ( He lives in Brown Street) but I shall relay the info to him and post the results.
    Thanks again

    Smile signal overload on dvt

hi there, dse dvt receivers have a low threshold good sensitivity .id look at putting something like an rf loop in the cable or use a attenutor in line and should be ok.. its like some satellite signals they can overload the front end of a satellite receiver, cheers hamguy2 nsw.

I used to live in that building, if its the one behind the 7/11. I found I had to use an attenuator to get uninterrupted digital.
