Gain any IQ???? WTF, do you mean intelligence quotient ???. What are you asking, will you get a higher intelligence quotient - short answer obviously NO
Perhaps you actually mean Improved Quality - answers still NO, in fact I wonder how you can perceive a quality difference between single or dual layer, I mean its media, simply a storage solution.

A simple question . IQ= image quality, wtf planet are you on ? obviously you fit more data on a dual layer disc so therefor more space for image and audio files.

And there in lies the question, using AVS i can choose to burn to 2 dvd5's, shrink to fit 1 x dvd5 or burn to 1 x dvd9 - will i gain anything using dual layer discs 2 $1.00 each compared to a single layer disc @ 30c each ?

No you will not gain any quality.

Think about it for a minute, you already have a compressed Divx/Xvid file, you wont gain anything when burning to DVD because to achieve the compression they remove some of the video information, you can't put that information back because it is discarded when the avi is created.

Short answer, use the single layers, unless it is an exceptionally loooong movie.
