    MOre information about powersave

if your games load but when you leave if for awhile and then come back they crash your drive has probably gone into powersave mode

to turn this off on seagate drives go to seagates website download the seagate manager software

install it and click on setting and change powersave to never
    Great find

Ok downloaded the Seagate Drive Manager Software and changed the powersave to never.... First off I had a black screen (ooohhhh) but after a reset I have not had a problem since so fingers crossed the Seagate Freeagent drives are ok after all (praise the lord) .

Well done to Hikaru for the heads up.........

This isn't true for my HP drive,it will work with only one of the USB leads in with no other power supply. But it causes lag in games when the going gets tough (lots of graphics going on). I think it makes it USB 2 speed with both leads connected, and only USB 1 speed with one lead.
I don't use the other USB port anyway, what are others using it for besides the hard drive?? Charger ?
I've got a USB hub here somewhere,I might see if it works in case I ever need more.

You'll find that with only 1 lead in, the HDD power supply is limit and so the HDD operates in low power mode - so it slows it's read/write etc speeds down etc.

With the WD Passport drives, do they come with the dual USB cable if you do need it?

Does anyone know if the Seagate Freeagent Go drives need the dual USB cable to stop any lagging in games?

I think the dual cable depends on what type of drive your running..

The FreeAgent Go is a single cable drive but make sure you disable the sleep mode......

So far my 2.5 WD 250g Elements has not gone to sleep or stanby, tested it by starting games or going a few minutes into game and leaving the game sit there for 20+ mins, then coming back and wthe wii remote has become inactive by then, so press the "A" button and continues just fine, i know on the Western Digital website they say "all" their drives go into spindown" maybe wd drives can resume from where they were, that or the WD Elements dont spindown when connect to a wii

Anyone else with a 2.5 wd element

WD elements 640GB works great. Lots and lots and lots of room, for only $124 from JB Hi-Fi.

Can anyone please confirm for me whether the Seagate Freeagent Go 500gb drives work once you disable the sleep mode? Do they have any power/lagging issues due to only having one USB cable?

I want to buy one tomorrow and just thought I'd check first. I have read thru the thread several times but still want to make sure.

    Hi all

Slightly off topic but I have a WD Elements drive formatted for Windows. Is it possible to partition the drive to keep the Windows files accessible (I think it's FAT32 at the moment) but have a smaller partition to work with the wii?

Thought I would report back on my question above ... separate partitions work fine. Currently have both NFTS and WBFS partitions.

WD 2.5 500g Passport works fine also works when Fat32 and Wbfs partitions

From cIOS 38 Rev13 and up there is no more spin down issues for any drive as it reads every so often even when paused

My LaCie 250GB doesn't seem to get recognised. I used USBLoader & CustomIOS, and WBFS 2.2.2. I got an 8GB pendrive to work, but if I plug in the LaCie... nothing

This might sound silly but have you tried both usb ports on the back of the Wii? Try the other usb port if you are having probs...

Other things to try are get the latest version of usbloader GX, that's what I use and recommend, and maybe reformat your drive on the PC with WBFS...

Here's a list of compatible games also..

Keep trying.....or buy a WD Elements drive...
