How much reading do you want to do, understand the whole encryption or just how to log
Back in the day, you started with Activate 11, and kubands work
If you think logging will get you free Austar/Foxtel, well sorry - you've missed the boat. It's all over & logging won't help.
Just giving you the heads up to save you wasting time & money.
Reality is an invention of my imagination.

You can learn a little about DVB encryption, EMMs and ECMs by logging communication using a season interface and a subscription card. But to really learn you need to be studying a live stream whose encryption has been broken and documented. The best one for that in Australia is Irdeto 1 Aurora on Optus C1.
If you really want to learn, get a working Irdeto 1 wafer or original card for Aurora (but not an Irdeto 2 Aurora card), monitor its activity using a season logger interface and a terminal, and study the data with Activate 11 document in hand you'll learn a lot. Once you've got your bearings you'll want to use programs like CardCom (a very old program, one of the oldest of us) which save time by parsing the Irdeto messages for you. You'll enter keys into an Irdeto 1 emulator such as CardEmu, watch the messages being processed and understand things even more. If you want you can then study source code for Irdeto 1 emulators, disassemble Irdeto 1 wafer hex files, or even try writing your own. By then you'll see how the Irdeto 2 stream is backward compatible with Irdeto 1, which is why most Irdeto 2 services still work with old Irdeto receivers. And you'll understand why logging won't help you get free Pay TV unless you already have working master keys in one form or another.
