Is it possible to have people send sms's to a webiste

A friend and few of his mates do a show on a community radio station and he asked me is it possible to have the listeners sms to thier website.

his idea was sms \ credits \ shopping type get rich scheme lol
it still needs wings,but basicly yes,it works

Can you give me the basic's behind it, i am guessing you need a phone number to sms to, can it be a landline or mobile
