another way to add m ore cat5 /ethernet ports is to get an ADSL switch, plug this into your modem/router and you get 8 more ports.

It sounds to me like you need to get someone around to do it or else you may end up over your head.
Do a search on the XBMC forum for the softmod ( i did mine recently and its easy) and xbox scene for the hdd swap (not so easy if you are a noob) about to put a 160gig hdd in mine.
