Default 4 cylinder tacho on single cylinder engine.

    Hey,

Im trying to put a 4,6 or 8cylinder tachometer on a single cylinder motor.

The tachometer uses the coil to calculate the rpm.

I need some sort of chip or something to turn 1 pulse into 4 pulses. Im not sure if anyone knows where to buy one or if anyone is willing to make one for some $$$.

Im terrible with electrics, so if anyone has any sort of clue, please let me know.

    Cheers,

    Dave

Hi Mate, Back in the 80's I was buying tachos from K-Mart and converted them to use on Go-Carts.
I can't remember at this stage what circuit I used.
To calibrate them I used my signal generator.
Have a look on google and you might find something.
Some younger brain on here should be able to help.
I will have a look in my old paperwork.
    Cheers

    Hi Kevin,

    Cheers for the reply mate.

I had a look on google and found a signal generator that goes on the alternator to the tachometre.

However the single cylinder motor im using is a bike motor which has a magneto.

Anyone know if this will still work?

    Heres what i found:

    Cheers,

    Dave
