Default What is the easiest web design software?

    Hi,

I don't have experience in web design, but I want to learn to build professional web pages. I know some html, but not much. Is there a cheap, easy to use and professional web design software that I could use easily without paying a lot? Am I asking for too much? Thank you!

dreamweaver.... and fireworks..... good starting point IMHO grab a torrent for evaluating and a book from the library

Even if you dont want to continue with pure HTML, this is a great tool.

As Z1gg33 said Dreamweaver & its add ons are a pretty good wysiwyg web page builder. The learning curv is a little higher than frontpage but it's worth it if you can put in the time.

I recommend 1st Page 2000 or 2006 freeware. Basic, free and lots of cool features and tools.

Is first page an all in one solution for building a webpage or do you need other tools ?

    Depends on the author's skills
If the skills are there, just notepad and paint would be enough.
I've used 1st page years ago, for years, to build full sites including scripting, authentication, databases and so on.

However, if the user is on the path of getting a career in web authoring, it's better to go towards Dreamweaver, Firework... and Photoshop for graphics...

I am certainly no web designer/developer but on the odd occasion that I have been asked to modify web pages, Notepad has been my tool of choice. However you have to be familiar with HTML & CSS and be prepared to consult w3.org a lot for standards.
Also be aware that no matter which development tool you use, browsers can interpret valid instructions differently. Microsofts IE used to be one of the worst but they are getting better (IE7&8) and as it is one of the most widely used you can't ignore it. So, the moral is check your efforts in multiple browsers, at least the most popular; IE, Firefox, Sarari (I know there are others but these are the current big three). If you want to see actual stats, look here:

A few points to keep in mind.
    1. Is it all static once created and published ?
If it is then any of the tools will be ok. If you will require dynamic content then you will need to look at what the backend will support. php/asp etc...
    2. Will just the one person be changed the content. If you have more then one person, every will/should be using the same programs.
    3. Will you be creating the pages from scratch. If you us programs like dreamweaver on an existing page, make sure you backup everything before you start. I have seen dreamweaver completly stuff and existing site. But if done from scratch, it seems ok most of the time.

Remember if you use a text editor, then you can work on the files directly. If you use a web site builder app, ALWAYS make the changes in the app and republish; if you dont you can loose some changes.

The very first application I used to build a website was Microsoft Frontpage, it's very basic and simple to use. These days I use Dreamweaver 8 for my basic web designing, it also works well when modifying open source web designs.

Dreamweaver 8 is a real melon scratcher but once you get the hang of it it is the best way to go

for basic designing and tinkering use frontpage its easy as....

You really need to learn HTML and CSS in order to make professional websites. Even the best software won't make up for a lack of knowledge. Once you are familiar with HTML/CSS, Dreamweaver is definitely the way to go.
