Solar Panel or Cell Import Costs

Does anyone know if you buy solar panels or PV cells from overseas do you get charged any extra import tax etc?

with anything from overseas once the amount reach's 1000$ then you get stung with import duties and gst etc

Solar cells and solar powered articles are duty free but will attract GST once the value is over $1000 AUD - i'm a customs broker

Thanks very much I only intend to buy a couple hundred dollars worth of cells from the States.

i'd have thought most would come from China? but if you only want a few hundred buck worth, i'd buy from Altronics. At least you get warranty & they will arrive in one piece if you shop locally.

Some O/S suppliers of goods are happy to break-up an order into values of less than $1000 and send them a day at a time till the whole order arrives.

I wouldn't bother importing panels . The way the legislation is going the solar scheme is doomed . And panels will be every where at good prices .

Im after some to do a 12 volt project . LED house lighting .
