    Default Jamma Console Query

    Hi Guys,

I must confess to not knowing too much about this stuff but the kids are pestering me to get a console. The Mrs will settle on a cocktail style for the gamesroom, so I am looking around.

There's a dude in melbourne (pinnacle wholesalers) who is selling new (presumably from China I guess) cocktail set-ups with (again assuming) a Jamma board with 1066 games for under $1300. Looking around, that seems like a pretty standard set-up and reasonbaly good value.

    So my questions are:

has anyone had any dealings with this mob ?

is the Jamma board the go ?

    any other comments ?

    thanks in anticipation.

    Nickbo

    Hi Nick ,

Jamma is a wiring standard , basically all later games were made to a universal wiring standard that could be used around the world , Jamma was adopted instead of each game needing a dedicated wiring loom.

The 1066 games you see advertised are basically PC's running a Mame emulator front end , Note "Emulator" meaning Mame is not the real thing.
The only thing Jamma about them is the connector on the front.

Many of the games emulated in Mame cost more that $1500 alone when they were new, so getting 1066 of them for less than the price of one of the real things you know what you can expect.

A cocktail table is a great choice for home , easy to move and double as a coffee table , most of these are made with a Jamma wiring harness so most games can be plugged in as long as the screen orientation is correct and you have enough buttons etc.
For this reason most cocktails come out now with a 48 in 1 or 60 in 1 game board , these include all the classics that most people remember , Galaga 1942 , pacman , Mr Do , Frogger , Space Invaders etc .

There are guys in WA that sell them complete ready to play , I'll PM you details and also there is stacks of info about everything arcade related on

Just a tip I wouldn't consider buying an arcade machine from people that sells BBQ's and outdoor furniture
