Default Internet Connectivity Issues with Next G Modem 7.2Sierra

    Hi Team,

Just purchased a brand new Next G modem (7.2Mbps AirCard Sierra blue USB card).

Laptop used is ACER TravelMate 6292 - Brand new with Vista Business.

Upon initial connection, no issues exist with connecting to internet via BIGPOND Connection Manager.

At 4 mins (average) of internet time usage, the modem always drops out but leaves Connection Manager still showing as connected.

I am unable to access internet after this occurs and need to pull modem out and re-start the PC every single time. This is not a random occurance.

I am on the 1GB NextG Telstra Bigpond Plan.

I have replaced the modem once already.

Telstra have been unable to solve the problem - despite 100 phone calls.

Interestingly, I have run this Sierra 880U modem on a friend's ASUS A8J Laptop with VISTA Home Premium. It works without any modem drop out.

My friend's NEXT G modem (older version 3.6Mbs wireless USB modem card)

The only obvious difference being that I can see is different versions of VISTA being used on each Laptops

Maybe it is settings thing on the ACER laptop??

This is very frustating and desperately need your help.

some time ago I had a problem with Zone Alarm on my daughters computer when we went on line.
It would allow you to connect but would not surf.
although this was immediate, could you have a firewall or virus checker that is blocking or disconnecting your service?
I also got caught with Outlook Express hanging up after checking the mail, somehow the box was ticked to 'Hang Up'after checking mail.
could it be your virus protector or anything thats doing an update when you go online and booting you when its done??
You have had 2 modems and you tried one at least on another computer and it worked ok but have you tried someone elses that works on your computer?

    Hyperterminal to the Com port..
    Try changing bands...
Can't remember Sierra commands.. I'm sure u will find it on google..
    Its something like

    AT!bands= xx

    xx= 00 , 01 , 02 etc...

Also see if hardware stays alive for a while

i just replied to this in an identical thread, can someone merge the two?

here is what you said zerosoma in the other thread... does your USB go into power savings mode? have you tried different power schemes? have you searched the acer site for any updated drivers?

also have a look at bios settings relating to power save, etc.
