What the!
I've not seen this before and wonder if it is bogus:
When I click my safely remove hardware tab (under XP) the dialog lists my HDD (SAMSUNG HD403LJ) and my CD/DVD (ASUS DRW-1814BLT) as well as anything I might have on USB at the time. Normal?
Would appreciate any thoughts.
I won't list the specs of the machine ATM but it is the same one I posted about recently that boots intermitantly without audio (still doing it).

yep
im guessing those are sata drives
and sata drives are technically "hot swappable"
Your guess would be 100% right urbans0ulja they are both sata.
However why havn't I seen this since I got the box in October, only noticed it last week and I do use the function to close USB devices quite regularly ... must be going blind in my old age.

This feature is great, i have also noticed it after getting an external SATA box!
What you say, MS making their OS user friendly!

Its definately normal, I have my Toshi DVD drive in my laptop come under that and its a swappable SATA drive (supposedly you can put a HDD in the bay if you wish).
Kinda tripped me out when I first saw it, and I occasionally eject the wrong thing when I'm in a hurry too!
Maybe your PC had an update which added it, but I've had it on my laptop for a couple of years (hmm time for a new laptop me thinks!)
Thanks for your input guys, I know now that is normal but in observing my system tray while looking into this I noticed everytime I boot the the icons resident in the system tray load in a different order which begs the question "if XP boots from the same file every time shouldn't they be in the same order each time?"
An answer to this may help me with my original posts (before the fall) re intermittent missing audio on this system.
Mods: Please excuse changing direction of thread, it was noticed while investigating original subject.
