[Doco] The Union - The Bussiness behind getting high (2007)

I am not usually into DOPE or anything marijuana related. But I found this to be very interesting, I have watched a few docos on this subject and this was by far the best of them (Super High Me was another I watched).

Made by a Canadian crew, I found this to be well rounded and even though it is a PRO Marijuana film, I think that they did not go over the top with it.

Some incredible facts about the history of said plant. In fact I really liked the beginning were they cover the HISTORY of the debate in the first 3 minutes, this was really clever as it bought the viewer (in this case me) up to speed on the topic.

For all the conspiracy theorists out there, this is yet another film which you should watch as it somewhat goes on to show how the US government has controlled the media and therefore peoples perceptions of this drug.

I was nodding my head, in agreement with what was being put forth as I too have somewhat been conned by what I have been told about the drug. (For the record I am not saying that I am now a converted pot smoker, I am merely saying that the tactics used to frightened people from using dope I have heard before)

Some compelling arguments for legalising it, several direct comparisons made to prohibition and yep you guessed it, it all comes down to money, that is to say, that its financially better to not have it become legal, as far to many jobs/companies depend on it being illegal.. it stopped and made me think thats for sure.

A bit about the actual film making.

I could be wrong, but the director/narrator does not actually make an appearance on camera until 1/2 way into it, which was strange as it made me think I have just been hearing this guys voice and now he appears on camera out of the blue but well within the context of the movie.

I actually thought it added to the production of the film, I also think that some of the camera work needs to be applauded there is a few shots were I was interested in how/why they did it this way, again probably nothing that has not already been done before.

for example. walking down a street full of people while narrating the film, it just seemed different somehow? well made me notice anyway

I was very impressed with this film and would recommend it as worthy of a watch.

That was an excellent doco.

I would recommend anyone who can download it to have a watch of it.
Note - the AVI is movie length - About 1 & 1/2 hours

I have mixed views on smoking pot .. smoked it on and off last 10 yrs and before that was heavy smoker ... morning .. lunchtime ...afternoon ..night smoker ... but over yrs having kids ..been married and seen my m8's go harder drugs ... dope is the stepping stone to harder shit ... some died from OD and others in jail from doing break ins and robbing ppl .... I kill my kids if found them smoking dope ... its not a life ... its misery ....

I watched few doco's on weed been very interesting ..

There's a lot more that you can do with the suff that just smoke it.

Yes i watched it as well found it very informative, the old hemp has been around since the dawn of man, and the amount of product it can produce is amazing, one thing it did not touch on was cotton industry involment in getting it banned, as cotton grower were scared that hemp would take over the industry and they would be out of pocket so they lobby they goverment to have the laws changed.

even in the doco they said weed is not a gateway or stepping stone to harder drugs but the drug dealers themselves forcing harder drugs on to buyers. and you can't blame the weed its the person that makes the decsion to move on to harder drugs.

Bullshit..Sorry Woodstock..i have to disagree...
I have grown up with people who have smoked hooch every single day i have known them...not one of them..or any of their mates... has gone on to harder shit...
I also know several people on "harder" stuff..and they have never smoked pot..or even normal ciggies for that matter...go figure...
You are either a pot head or a junkie...very rarely are you both...
