Default Scsi driver needed for xp pro install?

A friend got a triple hit of conflicker/malware doctor/ fake avast!

Wiping the hard drive was the final solution.

Now in trying to reload win xp pro onto his 500 gig scsi sata drive I'm getting a install error that says there's some kind of problem with the hard drive!

    tech info: 0x0000007B
    (0XF78D2524,0XC0000034,0X00000000,0X00000000)

Is there some special scsi driver need to reload XP Pro sp3 onto this drive?

the drive has been reformatted to NTFS.

And it is in a dell vostros 420 machine.

    thanks chris

go into the bios and check

the sata configuration and set it to ide if it has that option

because xp would not have the sata drivers in it .

If you do not have the option to change the setting the only other way out is to slip stream the drivers needed
    onto xp with nlite
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it

I did an Acer Travelmate Laptop earlier this year,

Someone had deleted all partitions & formatted the drive,

this being a mid 2008 Lappy had a 200GB Sata Hard drive in it,

they wanted to Install Windows XP, but the boot disc could not install because Windows XP boot disc does not have a driver for the Sata Hard drive,

(came up as a problem with the hard drive)

So after some google searching I found the necessary Sata driver,

& basically put the Sata driver on a floppy disk & using a USB floppy drive installed the Sata driver by pressing the F6 option as the Windows XP disc boots

this worked for me & Windows XP installed no problems,

But, Slip streaming your drivers into your XP boot disc seems to be the popular choice to do it

ok so basically I need an XP install disk with sata drivers . . correct?

Also, the computer I use for repair sees the 500 gig sata scsi fine and I don't have any scsi drivers on my machine!. That is how I scanned it for virii and spyware and then reformatted with Ontack!

I thought that the install disk I had used did have the sata drivers with it, but I will doublecheck thanks

What should bios SATA settings be?

How is it though my machine sees it fine? I have no scsi drivers loaded on my machine! Or is this only an issue when installing XP?

Ok how about this, what would I need to add to the 500gig drive to get it boot up and to go to the command prompt so I could navigate to a (xfered from XP install CD) I386 folder and then initiate XP setup from there?

What if I copied msdos.sys, io.sys, and command.com to the 500 gig scsi drive along with the c:\I386 folder and just let the 500 gig HD be the startup source for loading XP from the I386 folder?

I had one not so long ago and i thought i killed something BUT it was a setting in the BIOS for the HDD, for the life of me i can't remember but i only had to change one setting and she worked so just go into the HDD bios settings and go sick LOL

Miracle of all miracles my friend found the XP Install CD that Dell sent along, AND it had on it the scsi drivers slip-streamed on it for this gig sata hard drive!

You guys were right in that a SCSI driver(s) were needed. Still can't figure out how my test computer "SAW" it though!
