Whilst rumaging through my desk draws yesterday I found my old Gold Card that I had been looking for months (or over a year I think).
Am I able to use my Phoenix Card reader to do something with this or do I have to have one of those Jaycar kits.???
Also found an old Foxtel card which incidently I can read with my Phoenix gear (just using Win Explorer software). Obviously my hardware is OK.
Just wondering if the Gold card is dead or not - If it is a goer, might have a play to see what I can do with it.
Look Here -> |
Phoenix Card reader will be fine will do most things you want to the goldie. not good if you want to start from scrach.
I've got an AU* card that's about 5 yrs old, can anything useful be done with it?
Nah - I do not have luck - well not good luck anyway.
I am sure this Goldie never had Aurora setup - I am very suspicious that it is corrupt or has faulty data on it.
Where do I start ?
Is the Phoenix good enough to program with or do I have to get one of the Jaycar programmers as I see in instructions elsewhere in this forum.
read post above
as I said if it is a goldie all ready programed then the Phoenix Card reader will be ok but if you want to do from scrach you will need a reader that has both modes
If it displays a sensible serial number when you put it in an Irdeto receiver or CAM then the card binary is probably OK, which means a Phoenix should be sufficient to upload new keys and/or reinitialise its EEPROM.
Another way to check the card is to put it into FMCard and see if it's able to read anything sensible from the goldie.
If you can't get sensible information then you'll need a second interface capable of programming PICs, such as Jaycar Mk II or one of the commercial multi-mode card programmers.
It's also possible that the goldie is dead, especially if its contacts are worn - suggesting it's had a good life. But if it's never been used for much that probably means the card is fine, just needing to be properly programmed by a JDM or other PIC-compatible card programmer.
Can you use it to get channels? No.
Can it be useful for learning about Irdeto? Yes. Put it in a receiver with a season logger, monitor the messages, compare to published Gamma source.
But you'll learn just as much, if not more, from doing the same study with an Irdeto 1 Aurora card though.
Thanks gw1, I suppose I'll just keep scraping the ice off the windscreen with it.
Duck.
Just found an Elvis Programmer in my draw - Does anyone know if I can use this to program the Goldie ?
Yep I have the software and it is working a treat - The Goldie is a goer - at least with base or default hex files
To think that I nearly tossed the Elvis out with the rubbish..
Too easy
Lovely playtime and learning happening for me.
Many Thanks

I know someone whos programmed cards not sure what color, he told me gamma cards are grey but from what ive been reading they are white and he also said iderto 1 still on
There may be grey gammas around but all the ones i've seen have been white.
Irdeto 1 is still working and isn't likely to stop any time soon IMO. There's no point buying an expensive gamma just for Aurora when a cheap Silver or Fun is sufficient.
When Irdeto 1 does stop there are sure to be plenty of Irdeto 2 clone cards around (gamma or a successor) to meet the demand. There's no point paying for one now as there's no guarantee existing ones will keep working (they probably will though). If you happen to have a spare gamma laying around then Aurora is one way to put it to use, but I can't see any point in wearing out a potentially valuable card when a Silver or Fun can be used instead.
Actually I have a silver card, and a gold one hiding somewhere, A few months prior to iderto 2 being introduced, I decided to take smartcard programing up as a hobby since i had a lot of spare time one my hands not working due to an injury. Sorry, Actually I bought my first satellite box and working goldie from somebody in sydney, I got to enjoy some live boxing, nrl, etc for only 3 months, and it cost me 475 bucks. Aurora was still on though, but one day, dont know what posesed me i pulled the card out of the box and zapped it. Now living out in the country satellite was the go, all of a sudden i had no tv at all, why did i pull the damn card out, thats when I actually beacame obessed with smartcard programing, So off to satellite school i went, i started reading through all the satellite forums i could find, I remember reading at the start and almost gave up it seemed difficult but i kept on reading I think i read for about 3 weeks, an hour or two a day, it paid off. on my second attempt i programed first goldie, after two three attempts did a silver, it felt good
That's about right. Newcomers wanting to make an Aurora card (or similar) should expect to spend several weeks patiently reading and experimenting before they get it to work. Even if spoon-fed a carefully prepared step-by-step tutorial with working keys there are several things that can go wrong. By comparison getting a Gamma to work was far easier because, as jigsaw puzzles go, it had far fewer pieces. Gamma updates were always meant to be .
That's absolutely typical. Every year or so a different piracy scheme gets commercialised and a new generation of pirates are herded in and fleeced by sellers. The seller typically makes $200-500 instant profit from each victim, quickly disappears to avoid getting caught, with the pirate service stopping 2-5 months later. It's inevitable it does so, because secrets sold to the public to that extent are no longer secret.I bought my first satellite box and working [card] from somebody in sydney, I got to enjoy some live boxing, nrl, etc for only 3 months, and it cost me 475 bucks.
Every buyer feels exceedingly lucky to have found a seller, like a fossicker who struck gold. He thinks he's in a secret club and the provider doesn't know. But the fact that he found it with little technical skill guarantees that the provider will too, so closure is only a matter of time. Cracks devised by experienced hackers sometimes stay open for a while if kept underground, but all it takes is one greedy person to productise it for quick profit.
That's why, as a rule, if you hear an exploit is possible, it's worth your time to experiment if you're technically minded; but once it's available to buy there's little point either buying or experimenting. That's the irony of piracy products: they often work when you can't buy them, but once you can they soon won't.
It's true that "pirate" (all-channel) Aurora cards are commercially available for use by non-technical users, and have been for many years, but they're an exception. Their availability isn't damaging the provider's business interests, which is why they haven't been shut down. If Irdeto 1 Aurora became embroiled in a political scandal though that would change.

digging this up again
about a year ago I programmed a gold for Aurora was working fine up to about Jan or Feb this year, I tried reprogramming it but nothing! FMcard reads all the details fine, I don't get any errors when writing to the card but I put it into the box and nothing!
it has been in the box for about 2 months now, and I don't even get a flicker of a picture!
am I doing something wrong? is the car dead? do I need to update my Strong 53?
I read that and did that to no avail.
but I must be retarded, as I was using the wrong info
got it going last night
thanks for the halp B4L and GW1
