A pic of the 'dishes' would be good to determine what they might actually be.
Perhaps microwave terrestrial and not satellite, or if satellite, maybe in the general direction of the mountain but perhaps looking above it.
Can anybody please tell us the reason for pointing a sat dish at Mount Wellington in Hobart. We've noticed this a few times in our travels, and cannot get anything from it. We've tried a dish pointed at the mountain, best signal with sat finder squealing like a stuck pig, blind scan, and nothing.
Can somebody please tell us (local experts) why the dishes are pointed that way. Must be a reason.

G'Day Cobber,
I've done a little research and find the bearing from central Hobart to Mount Wellington is 259 Degrees True.
There are Satellites low down on the Western Horizon.
Among them Measat 3 at 295 Degrees True, also NSS 6 at 298 Degrees True.
Dish elevation would be around 18 Degrees and with an offset dish around 25 degrees would appear to be pointing into the ground.
Please accept this as a possible explanation only.
I've also had a close look at the Satellite image of Mount Wellington and cannot discern anything resembling a dish.
Kindest Regards, " The Druid "..................................
Thanks for the inputs guys.
The thing that confuses me is the bloody dish is pointing roughly south west aiming for the mountain.
The dish I've seen a few times while driving past is about an 85cm standard offset with what looks like a normal lnb. I'll try and have a proper look next time I'm going past. Maybe they've done it just to confuse people like me.
Cheers
I lived in Hobart last year and didn't see any dishes pointing at Mt Wellington. There is a lot of old microwave antennas that previously carried Austar but no dishes. It may have been an old Austar dish that was no longer in use and had been tampered with?
