I have a telstra wireless broadband modem. The wifes laptop went in for repair & now the modem wants a password for connection. No one remembers what it was. Is there any way around this ? thanks

connect the modem via Ethernet cable, open internet explorer and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar, that gets you in the modem's settings, go to wireless security section and see what the password is, or change it to anything you want.
if the modem asks you for a user name and password it's usually username: admin and the password one of these: password or admin or leave it blank.
try this and see what you can do

don't you have to be connected in the first place to show the key, or does it work regardless?

It will show you the key that is saved to your computer without being logged in

Here is a couple of lists of default IP addy's user names and passwords for routers if you have to crack in to your wireless router as Aboulaly posted above

Are you talking about the password to get into the wireless router/modem to admin it or a password for the wireless to connect so the laptop can surf?

    I would try
    admin <no password>
    admin admin
    admin password

You could see if you can find the user guide for that device and see what it says is the default username and password.

Thanks everyone , I got it sorted. On the bottom of the modem there is a sticker with a WMP (wireless modem p/word ? ) number. Entered that in the laptop & all OK.
