If your in Japan just look out for the western coffee shops. Most have free wifi if you buy a coffee. Most apartment blocks have free fibre optic I had my mate run some tests and made my bigpong cable look like dial up.

There are plenty of wireless cards available too I guess you could look out for a pre paid one. Unless you speak fluent Japanese I dont thing this would be worth the pain though.

Hong Kong - internet cafe. Only been there once.

Most of the Macca's in Hong Kong offer free wifi for 20 minutes usage per day.
Great if you just want to check emails and so on.

90% of the coffee shops there have Free internet wi fi as well as terminals.. buy a coffee and your good to go. there are heaps in kowloon, but if you stick to starbucks and i can't rememer the other big one there they offer it western star i think it is called. but dont quote me..

If you want mobile internet just heat to any PCMobile store and they will set up.. not cheap for a one off thing.. better to haunt the coffee shops...

Your hotel if it is a good one will also offer Free wi fi in the coffee shop area as well.. the Nathan hotel has it in there coffee shop and in there business suite which is open to everyone... ( hint hint )

If you stick to the big shopping centres and tourist spots you will find a Free Wi fi area no Drama's just dont go dowloading movies etc as they do cut your connections.

You'll also learn just how slow and out of date Aust internet is as well. love the speeds i got while i was there.
