    Default Current Melbourne Channel listing

Can anyone tell me what the current digital channel lineup is in Melbourne ? I have scanned what should be all of them in but seem to be missing 10HD and am wondering if there are others missing.

    Correct.

Network TEN decided a 24 hour sports channel (ONE HD) was better for them to have than HD movie & general entertainment programming (TEN HD).

    Very poor move IMHO

Not totally correct, 10 network have a limited amount of bandwidth to broadcast on, as do all networks.
Having ONE HD for sport chews lots of bandwidth, HD movies would also chew bandwidth CH 10 do not have.
Thus the MPEG 4 debate. When Digital STB's come on the market with MPEG4 capabilities then the networks will be able to compress HD movies into this format and broadcast within their bandwidth restraints.
(MPEG4 STB's are the ones "freeview" promote)

    It's not either/or.

I enjoy the coverage on OneHD, but I also used to enjoy other Ten programs in HD. Now, there's no choice if you want HD programming.

Sorry to bump... but new to digital terrestrial. Are the HD channels, e.g. One HD MPEG-2 or MPEG-4? And is an EIT EPG broadcast? I.e. Will the EPG work in Windows Media Center? Or is it MHEG5 only (like Freeview|HD in NZL)?

    Cheers!

All transponders in Melbourne are sending a 7 day EPG now afaik. I guess it is the same in other state ? Shepherd has a lot better quality of EPG data than the EIT. It can be pushed into running on Windows with some trouble.
