    Default What is required?

To run a webpage for a sporting club.
One that would have about 500 members who may log in at anytime to make bookings (this would need to carry peak load with maybe 100 members trying log in at the same time) or to check scores.
They may also use the webpage as a database for various informations.
The site would need many photos and many links to other webpages.

The site would need to allow a staff member to update scores daily ( so this part would need to be easily accessed and updated.)

Is this an extravagent set up, is it costly?

    I am interested to know.

Quite a lot of different components there. To do what you want would most likely require someone writing the application in ASP, .NET, PHP, PERL etc and could take quite some time and quite a bit of money to do. There is some software around which will do parts of what you want, but I am not aware of any software that will do everything your looking for.
What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?

I am sure there would be some form of template that you could use for the booking system. Just a matter off tracking it down. Probally would require combining different software to get what you want. The rest of it is fairly simple.I dont think it should cost to much to set up. Hosting/domain costs are fairly cheap for that amount of traffic.

If you are talking about a system for a golf course, there are several companies in Australia that have this packaged and flog it for around 12,000. I believe some of their systems intergrate with golflink to save your pro uploading comp results twice.
If this is indeed for a golf club, let me know as I may be able to provide a cheaper solution.

    Cheers,

    Richard.

    CMS will do all that....
drupal is meant to be good. im still testing it for my application. It uses PHP, and MySQL.... there are free hosts out there that support both.

Give it a look.... its on sourceforge and there are heaps of templates and sub-programs (called modules) you can use.
