    Question Win XP file defragmentation.

    G'Day Cobbers,
I've had a tough day getting the "Scandisk, Chkdisk, cleandisk and defrag " working on my pc.
Eventually ended up with this report:

Fragments File Size Files that cannot be defragmented
    1,385 2.00 GB \WIZTRANS03\USMT2.UNC\IMG00001.DAT

Please, is there someone that can help me clean up this mess?

Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".

How much free space (in %) do you have left on your Hard Drive ?

sometimes refuses to defrag if there is not enough space left.

    Thanks for reply.
    Volume (C
    Volume size = 74.52 GB
    Cluster size = 4 KB
    Used space = 27.14 GB
    Free space = 47.38 GB
    Percent free space = 63 %

I can't recognize what that 2GB file is. Do you think I should try and delete?

can you run Scandisk from a boot CD like BartePE or something
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all

try to do that in safe mode.
once in safe mode(restart-- keep pressingF8) run this command in DOS chkdsk /r
answer Y to run the command after restart, see how you would go.
the error you are getting can happend when you have a corrupted file( or that what is windows think).
    see how you would go

Yes that's what I did the first time round, but would report ' unable to complete after restart '.
Did the defrag again with same result. ( took 3 hrs the first time.)
While looking at C drive, decided to look at the folders, and lo and behold, there it was:
    1,385 2.00 GB \WIZTRANS03\USMT2.UNC\IMG00001.DAT
Contained 2 movie disks 1.9 and 2.2 GBs.
Needless to say, I could not delete them fast enough.
Ran the Defrag again in about 20 mns and all sweet.

My heartfelt gratitude to all who responded.

Kindest Regards, " The Druid "..........
