How much free space (in %) do you have left on your Hard Drive ?
sometimes refuses to defrag if there is not enough space left.
G'Day Cobbers,
I've had a tough day getting the "Scandisk, Chkdisk, cleandisk and defrag " working on my pc.
Eventually ended up with this report:
Fragments File Size Files that cannot be defragmented
1,385 2.00 GB \WIZTRANS03\USMT2.UNC\IMG00001.DAT
Please, is there someone that can help me clean up this mess?
Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".

is the HDD in Fat32 mode? - maybe the problem if it is - convert it to NTFS

try to do that in safe mode.
once in safe mode(restart-- keep pressingF8) run this command in DOS chkdsk /r
answer Y to run the command after restart, see how you would go.
the error you are getting can happend when you have a corrupted file( or that what is windows think).
see how you would go

Can you run Check disk, Ok
1. Open My Computer
2. Right Click on C drive
3. Select properties
4. Select tools Tab
5. In Error-Checking, Select Check Now
6. Tick, Automatically fix file system errors
7. Tick, Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
8. Click start
9. Do you want to schedule a disk check next time you start the computer ?, Click Yes
10, Click Ok
11. Close all the boxes
12. Restart the computer

Many Thanks. Good thought, but was NTFS.is the HDD in Fat32 mode? - maybe the problem if it is - convert it to NTFS
Yes that's what I did the first time round, but would report ' unable to complete after restart '.
Did the defrag again with same result. ( took 3 hrs the first time.)
While looking at C drive, decided to look at the folders, and lo and behold, there it was: 1,385 2.00 GB \WIZTRANS03\USMT2.UNC\IMG00001.DAT
Contained 2 movie disks 1.9 and 2.2 GBs.
Needless to say, I could not delete them fast enough.
Ran the Defrag again in about 20 mns and all sweet.
My heartfelt gratitude to all who responded.
Kindest Regards, " The Druid "..........
