Default Relook 400s, HDD and CAM

    Here's an interesting one.

Trying to run a 400s with HDD installed, FreeCAM and CS. All I get is heavily pixelated images Remove the power to the HDD and it runs fine.

    So:
Use CS, HDD and CAM, no go.
Use CS and HDD, all ok.
Use CS and CAM, all ok.

Several CAMs have been tried as well as several images. The images have been tried with HDD connected and disconnected during install.
Sure, I can go HDDless route but doesn't give me a recording option.

    Ideas anyone?

Its almost like the HDD is drawing to much power ???

I would have thought a box setup for PVR would have a powerful enough PSU to cater for the hdd etc power draw.. ???

maybe a question to Daniel ??

TurboIndustries sell them now with a 320Gb HDD. Have tried a 250Gb, still no go.

Fantacy, Relook Support, Highland, Neumo etc..
    I'll give HL2.16 another try.

maybe try a lappy drive as it will draw less current. You may have a power supply issue.

Hopefully not from a brand new unit..... but you never know.
I was going to try a 2.5" HDD, when I can get my hands on one. Shops here close at noon

It's a that some drives cause glitching.

It's been a long time since I bought the hard drive for my Relook 400S but I do recall being advised at the time to buy certain brands and not others. From memory the issue was mainly current consumption, with temperature being a secondary concern.

There's an outside chance the problem may be protocol or timing incompatibility with certain HDD firmware, but that's less likely IMO than current draw.

I seem to recall the drive I bought was a Hitachi but I'm not certain. At any rate I reckon your best bet is to read around and find a HDD model that is known to work well, then buy that.

    good luck

PS. one other possibility is that your power supply might be beginning to fail, if your receiver has had several years of use. replace the electrolytics if you're confident (be sure to respect their voltage ratings) otherwise buy a replacement supply board.

Can Anyone that's got a Relook 400 and a HDD in it & NOT having any problems

Please list your Image details & FULL HDD make/model

I think we need to get a list of what does actually work..

I would like to think a brand new box doesn't have a PSU issue just yet being only a few weeks old..

Been through the Denktenk site already scouting for info. Seems to be HDD and image dependant. Any Neumo based image, the picture is unwatchable. Pixelation is THAT bad.

Have HL216 running at the moment with occasional minor pixelation. However, channel changing between 2 server cards and CAM is VERY VERY VERY SLOW Will leave it using the CAM overnight and see if it still updates.

With regards to the PSU, it's a brand new 400s bought from the group buy. One would assume (hopes) it'll have no problems for quite a while.
The HDD is the WD 320Gb also from the group buy. Even a WD 250Gb shows the same problems.

    Nemo 2.13.6 +
    Western Digital wd1600 150G

Works ok till the drive gets fuller, a format fixes it.

Sounds like 400's don't like WD too much.

I've run most of them now. All the DGS images seem fine to me.

OP has no problems without the CAM. I don't have a CAM.

I'll put a 200gb WD im when I'm finished fiddling with Enigma images and see how that goes for me.

Yes, but I NEED the CAM. The card won't work in a slot, regardless of image used.
I can almost live without the HDD. It is a 'nice to have' function.

Gone back to the Relook Support image for the time being. It works, just, but I don't like the image.
I have a new Micom chip on the way. Will see if that makes any difference.

Fnatacyteam 2.13.6 WD3200AAJB-00WGA0. The only problems I have is that it occasionally corrupts recordings, & lip sync is usually out unless you reboot after recording. The corruption issue can be sorted out for new recordings by setting the box to do an fsck on reboot (you need to reset this on the menus each time before a reboot). I also have waht DGS calls trick recording mode (actually time shift) enabled, & I think this is the root cause of the corruptions.
