    Default GDR-8164B drive problem

Hi, I have a heap of these drives and I can't seem to get rawdump to work with them. Says the drive is faulty. Just wondering if there's a few people with a good knowledge of these drives that would be willing to see if they can get them working for me. I'll send you one in the post and whoever can tell me how to get them working first, I'll send you a few more for your trouble.
No need to return any drives back to me.
    Thanks
    Rob

I've got a 8161 and a 8164 and both dump perfectly on my PCs

have you tried using a different PC or are you using the same PC with different 8164s

how are you connecting them - master/slave and are there other drives on the same IDE channel, if so have you tried altering this configuration

    regards...

Have tried 2 different PC's, as master and cable select with no other devices on IDE channel. Both computers however only have a primary IDE and no secondary. Would it be worth trying a computer using the secondary IDE?

yep definately try another PC with a secondary IDE channel

and/or try a USB 2.0 to IDE adapter - this worked for me on a laptop

Tried secondary IDE and in safe mode (XP), both didn't work. I think I've got a heap of duds.

What's the technical reason the lg gdr-816x drives can rip Wii disks and all the others can't?

thanks to the xbox360 scene the firmware of these drives was dumped and reverse engineered, undocumented debug commands which allow the dumping of the drive's memory were found and used to dump the raw data of a Wii disc even though the error detection codes show the data is corrupt as the GC/Wii uses a different EDC to normal dvd discs

all other drives will try to correct those EDC errors and eventually timeout with uncorrectable data

    regards...

anyone else receive "unhandled exception' errors.

Been trying for a while on NBA 08 and it starts out fast, then slows to 500MB/hour then dies in the A and spits out an error.

I cleaned the disk, doesn't appear overly scratched, happens every time, but in different spots.

Using XP SP2 tried with both .net 2.0 and 3.0 with both rawdump 2.0 and 2.1.
Have even tried PIO and still happens.

    Any ideas guys/girls???

There's another program called Friidump that might be worth trying.

    Hi Rob,
This looks to be a firmware related issue mate. Seems the newer firmware wont work, so, what I am planning to do is to try reprogramming with older firmware to see if that works. Will have to be programmed externally as the firmware flashers that I found don't like going backwards.
Will update as soon as I know.
    Mick
