you want surround back. the other ones would be for the sides as effects speakers.

Hey all,
Just trying to setup my Surround Sound System and I'm a little confused by the Surround speaker configuration...
The amp is a Yamaha RX-V563 7.1 thing, but I only want 5.1 (as I have no room to put the other 2 speakers)... The rear two speaker are place on either side and behind the couch, should I use the "Surround Back" or "Surround" terminals on the amp??
Cheers for any help

Use the Surround terminals, that model amp allows you to use the surround back as zone 2 speakers. Great for outdoors as zone 2 will run an independent source (not digital).

check out dolby.com for setup configurations.
centre back is only 1 speaker, and should be nowhere near the 2 surrounds.
Surrounds should be placed parallel to the viewing location, with the surround back at least 1.5 metres away (this distance can be offset with proper config)
